Natural Stone Tiling
Natural Stone tiles such as Travertine, Limestone, Marble and Slate are cut and milled from organic sedimentary stone and rock materials that have formed over thousands of years. Travertine and Limestone are essentially the same type of material and are usually found in varying colours of brown, beige and grey. They come in two varieties; natural or 'tumbled' and honed & filled. Tumbled stone usually has a rough finish and can contain a lot of 'characteristic' holes whereas honed & filled stone goes through a finishing process that flattens the surface and fills the holes. Marble comes in many colours, tends to be highly polished and can have 'veins' of colour running through the tile, they all have their unique charm, and each tile will have its own unique pattern formation. Slate tiles are usually either grey or a 'rusty' brown colour and have either a natural 'riven' or uneven surface or are flat and highly polished. As well as the price of the tiles, installing natural stone can be quite costly, all natural stone tiles need to be fixed with the correct adhesive and installed correctly. Natural Stone is pourous and should be sealed with an appropriate waterproof sealer before and after gouting, and periodically after the installtion. But whichever type you choose they will make a stunning addition to your home.
